Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens is situated in Northumberland and is steeped in more than 600 years of history. Layers of settlement, from the medieval period onwards, are witnessed in its archaeology and the site represents a significant social record of the life of a country estate over the years. A Grade I listed park and garden, it has numerous individual listed buildings across the site alongside areas of Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Mosedale Gillatt Architects were engaged by English Heritage to lead a design team to develop masterplan proposals for the re-awakening of the whole site. This complex project involved the integration of new café, shop, ticketing facilities, education hub and accommodation for volunteers. alongside a significant review of the landscape setting and condition.
Work is now paused as applications for funding are being progressed but we hope to see this exciting project move forward in the near future.
